IPTV Not Working on Firestick? Fix It
Rewritten
Restructured to separate diagnosis from procedure, split bundled fixes into individually verifiable steps, and added verification and escalation guidance. Corrected power-cycle duration, storage figure, and advice to reposition a device that cannot be moved.
IPTV stopped working on your Firestick? This guide explains why it happens and how to fix it, one change at a time.

Who This Guide Covers
For Fire TV Stick users whose IPTV app worked before and has now stopped — the app will not open, channels will not load, or streams will not start.
Devices: Fire TV Stick, Fire TV
Before you start
- Your Fire TV remote and access to the Firestick Settings menu
- Your IPTV username, password and server URL — reinstalling requires re-entering them
Narrower problem? Streams play but stall · Channel list is empty · Login is rejected · App closes on its own · Black screen, no picture
Quick Answer
- Restart the Firestick first and check — then the router, and check again
- Clear the IPTV app cache in Settings (not app data — that erases your credentials)
- Free at least 1 GB of storage, then check for a system update
- If it still fails, reinstall the app and re-enter your credentials
Why the Issue Happens
IPTV stops working on Firestick when the app cache is corrupted, storage is low, the device or app software is outdated, or the connection drops. Wrong credentials or an expired subscription also stop channels from loading — and those are account faults, not device faults.
See our IPTV setup guide for configuration help and our IPTV troubleshooting hub for broader fixes.
Which Problem Are You Seeing?
"Not working" covers several different faults, and they need different fixes. Match what you are seeing first — working through the wrong list wastes time:
- The app opens and plays, but stalls repeatedly — that is buffering. See our IPTV buffering on Firestick guide.
- The app opens but the channel list is empty — see our IPTV not loading channels guide.
- Your username or password is rejected — see our IPTV login failed guide.
- The app closes itself — see our IPTV app crashing guide.
If none of those match — the app will not open, or opens and nothing works at all — continue below.
Step-by-Step Fix
Work through these in order and check playback after each one. Changing several things at once tells you nothing about which one worked, and leaves you with nothing useful to report if you need support later.
1. Restart the Firestick
Unplug the Firestick for 30 seconds, then reconnect it and open the app.Expected outcome: the app opens normally. If it does, stop here — the fault was a temporary device glitch.
2. Restart the router
Only if step 1 did not help. Unplug the router for 30 seconds, wait for it to come back online, then retry.Expected outcome: the app connects and channels load. If restarting the router fixed it, the fault was your connection rather than the Firestick.
3. Clear the app cache
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select your IPTV app, then choose Clear Cache. This removes temporary data that can cause playback issues.Clear cache only. Clearing data will erase your credentials and you will need to re-enter them.Expected outcome: the app opens and loads its channel list cleanly.
4. Free up storage
Check storage under Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications. Uninstall unused apps and clear their caches to free at least 1 GB.Expected outcome: the app stops closing itself and loads faster. Low storage reliably causes crashes and slow loading; if your problem is the connection, this step will not change it.
5. Update the Firestick and the app
Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for System Update, then check the Appstore for an app update. Updates can include network and decoder fixes.Expected outcome: compatibility problems between the app and device software are resolved.
6. Reinstall the app
Uninstall the IPTV app, restart the Firestick, then reinstall it and re-enter your credentials. Have your username, password and server URL to hand before starting.Expected outcome: a clean install resolves corrupted app files. If the problem returns after a reinstall, it is not a local configuration fault — see the stop conditions below.
Network Factors
Wi-Fi congestion, weak signal, and peak-time load can stop IPTV from playing on a Firestick. Peak hours in the UK are typically 7–11 pm; if the problem appears only in that window and clears outside it, congestion is the likely cause rather than your device.
The Firestick has no Ethernet port, so a wired test needs a USB Ethernet adapter. It is worth doing: Ethernet gives steadier throughput and lower jitter than Wi-Fi, and a problem that persists on a wired connection is not caused by your Wi-Fi. Because the Firestick plugs directly into the TV, moving it closer to the router usually is not possible — if signal is weak, move the router, or use a wired adapter instead.
Check your broadband speed: HD needs roughly 10–15 Mbps per stream and 4K 25 Mbps or more per stream, so a household running several at once needs more. See our best internet speed for IPTV UK guide for requirements.
Device Factors
The Firestick has limited storage and RAM. Low storage reliably causes apps to crash and load slowly, which is why step 4 above is worth doing. Outdated Firestick or app software can also cause compatibility issues.
A factory reset is a last resort — it removes all apps and data, and you will need to reinstall and reconfigure everything. Use it only after steps 1–6 have failed. See our IPTV setup guide for reinstallation steps and our best device for IPTV UK guide if you are considering different hardware.
How to Confirm the Fix Worked
The IPTV app opens, the channel list loads, and a channel plays without stopping.
Signs it worked
- The app opens without closing itself
- The channel list populates rather than staying empty
- A channel plays through a full programme without interruption
Signs it did not work
- The app opens and channels play, but streams stall repeatedly — that is buffering, not a device fault — see our IPTV buffering on Firestick guide
- The app opens but the channel list stays empty — see our IPTV not loading channels guide
- Your username and password are rejected — see our IPTV login failed guide
When to Stop Troubleshooting
- The same credentials also fail on a second device. The fault is with the account or subscription, not the Firestick. Nothing in this guide will change it.
- Other streaming apps on the Firestick also fail to play. This points to the device or your network rather than the IPTV app, so IPTV-specific fixes will not resolve it.
- You have reinstalled the app or factory reset the Firestick and the problem returns. Self-service is exhausted. A fault that survives a clean install is not a local configuration problem.
When you contact your provider, include:
- Which fixes you tried, and what changed after each (restart, cache clear, storage, update, reinstall)
- Whether the same credentials work on another device
- The exact error message shown, if any
- Your Fire TV model and software version (Settings > My Fire TV > About)
